Cultimate Foods, a pioneering cultivated meat company, has entered into a collaboration with Extracellular, a CDMO dedicated to supporting cellular agriculture, to accelerate the development and scale of Cultimate’s cultivated fat ingredient.
Both startups are participating in the accelerator program run by Big Idea Ventures, an investment fund committed to supporting global leaders in the food and food technology sector via early-stage investments.
As part of the collaboration agreement, Extracellular and Cultimate will work on manufacturing processes for animal fat from cultivated cells. Extracellular will conduct development and scale-up studies for Cultimate in Extracellular’s process development labs.
George Zheleznyi, Co-Founder and CEO of Cultimate Foods said:
“We were happy to meet Extracellular on Big Idea Ventures’ program. Extracellular provides the expertise and capabilities for Cultimate to develop and scale our manufacturing process. Cultimate Foods believes in early collaboration between foodtech startups and sees a huge scope of synergies with Extracellular”.
Will Milligan, Founder and CEO of Extracellular, commented: “Cultimate is focused on one of the key ingredients that plant-based foods lack – the taste and mouthfeel of fat. Cultimate has the potential to make meaningful progress on the commercialisation of hybrid products using both plant proteins and animal fat from cultivated cells. Extracellular is proud to support Cultimate on their development and scale-up journey.”
